China and Africa are forging a powerful new partnership, and the city of Jinhua is at the heart of it all! This collaboration is set to reshape economic and cultural landscapes, and it's happening right now.
In a recent forum held in Jinhua, east China, a staggering 40 billion yuan (approximately 5.65 billion U.S. dollars) worth of cooperation projects were signed. This event, the 2025 Forum on China-Africa Economic, Trade and Cultural Cooperation, brought together over 400 guests from 38 countries and regions. The goal? To deepen ties and build a shared future.
This forum, a key initiative under the larger Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, is designed to leverage Jinhua's strengths to boost economic, trade, and cultural connections. Think of it as a blueprint for joint modernization and a lasting China-Africa community.
A total of 33 cooperation projects were inked, spanning trade, investment, engineering, and even overseas warehouse construction. Daniel Mukoko Samba, Vice Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, captured the spirit perfectly, calling China's commitment to Africa 'remarkable and deeply inspiring.' He emphasized that the partnership offers both strength and hope as Africa strives for economic transformation.
But here's where it gets interesting: Jinhua is already a major player. In the first nine months of 2025, the city's exports to Africa hit 111.49 billion yuan, a 27.5 percent year-on-year increase! That's a whopping 9.5 percent of China's total exports to Africa. Plus, African specialty products like coffee and honey are finding a welcoming market in China through zero-tariff channels.
On the cultural front, the Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe is taking traditional Chinese performing arts to Africa, with 48 performances across 14 African countries. Local schools in Jinhua are also playing a crucial role, educating over 15,000 African students from over 50 countries and regions. Zhejiang Normal University, in particular, has been running Africa-focused programs since the 1990s, with over 1,000 African students enrolled annually.
Nabil Azaroual, a 25-year-old buyer from Morocco who studied in Zhejiang, considers China his second home. He credits the support he received in China for enabling him to build a bridge between the two countries.
Chakil Aboobacar, secretary-general of the Frelimo Party in Mozambique, highlighted China's role in his country's economic development, spanning finance, infrastructure, and education. He sees China's investments as a testament to their shared commitment.
This year marked the seventh forum, which has facilitated over 100 China-Africa cooperation projects over the years. Next year will be the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Daniel Mukoko Samba emphasized that sustainable economic cooperation requires mutual understanding and trust. He highlighted the power of arts, music, and cultural heritage in building lasting relationships.
